I personally think both are great! Each has its own benefits, and the best approach often depends on where you are in your writing journey (or even your mood that day).
When I’m not really feeling like writing, Word Sprints help me push through. There’s something about the timed challenge and the shared energy of other writers that gets the words flowing. But when I’m deep in the zone, solo writing is where I do my best work—I can sink into my story without distractions.
Why Writing Groups Are Worth Trying
Writing groups come in all shapes and sizes, from critique circles to casual co-writing sessions. Here’s why they can be a game-changer:
✅ Accountability & Motivation – Knowing others are expecting you to write (or at least show up) can push you past procrastination.
✅ Feedback & Growth – A good group will give you fresh perspectives and help you refine your writing.
✅ Community & Support – Writing can be lonely, but connecting with others who “get it” makes the journey more fun and fulfilling.
A great place to find other writers is NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month). Whether you officially participate or just lurk in the forums, it’s a fantastic way to meet fellow writers, find local groups, and get that extra push to write more.
Why Solo Writing Has Its Perks
On the flip side, some of my best writing happens when I’m alone, fully immersed in my story. Here’s why solo writing is essential:
✅ Deep Focus – No interruptions, no opinions—just you and the page.
✅ Creative Freedom – You make all the decisions without outside influence.
✅ Flexible Schedule – No need to coordinate with a group. You write when inspiration (or coffee) strikes.
Finding What Works for You
The truth is, you don’t have to choose one over the other. Some days, a writing group or sprint can give you that extra boost. Other days, solo writing is the way to go. The key is to find a balance that keeps you writing, whether that means joining a community like NaNoWriMo, hopping into Word Sprints, or carving out quiet time for yourself.
How do you balance group and solo writing? Do you have a favorite method? 🚀
